Blacksburg Students Weather Storm For Taste Of ACC Track & Field

Feb. 22, 2013

BLACKSBURG, Va. - The chilly weather, light snow and mild ice did not deter 20 Price's Fork Elementary students from their scheduled time at the 2013 Atlantic Coast Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships on Friday morning.

Representatives from the ACC met with the group in conjunction with the league's outreach program, "ACC Community Connections," which is aimed at teaching life lessons to elementary and middle school students in the communities in which the league's student-athletes compete in their ACC Championships.

The students took part in a track and field clinic that focused on the standing broad jump, the hurdles and the starting blocks used in running events. The group then remained to watch the beginning of Friday's session, which featured the finals in 12 events.

Friday's clinic was initially canceled due to the inclement weather, but so many students expressed interest in still attending independently that it was hastily rescheduled.

The 2013 ACC Indoor Track and Field Championship began on Thursday and will continue through Saturday afternoon at Rector Field House. On Saturday, the ACC will donate 20 books to Price's Fork Elementary School as an additional part of the Community Connections program.
