GREENSBORO, N.C. – Clemson junior Spencer Adams and Virginia Tech senior Marcel Lomnicky have been named the ACC Indoor Track & Field Men’s Co-Performers of the Week, announced by the conference on Tuesday. Clemson junior Marlena Wesh was named the ACC Women’s Performer of the Week.
Adams posted a 7.68 mark in the 60-meter hurdles at the New Balance Invitational in New York, N.Y., this past weekend. The time matched his personal best from earlier this season and ranks as the second best time in program history. The junior from Charlotte, N.C., finished runner-up to the national leader out of a field of 90 at the invitational, and he still has the second fastest time in the event in the NCAA this year.
Lomnicky won the weight throw at the Virginia Tech Elite Meet with an NCAA automatic-qualifying and meet-record throw of 23.05 meters in his first competition of the season. Lomnicky, a native of Nitra, Slovakia, currently holds the top throw in the NCAA this season and the mark was his personal best by nearly six feet. He was named the men’s outstanding performer of the meet.
Wesh produced an automatic NCAA qualifying time of 52.21 in the 400-meter dash at the New Balance Invitational. Her time, which was four tenths of a second faster than her closest competitor, ranks as the fastest time in the NCAA this season and broke her own school record. The Virginia Beach, Va., native also ran the anchor leg for the winning 4x400-meter relay that helped Clemson claim the team championship over a field that featured 11 of the nation’s top 25 teams.
