NCAA ACCtion: Four ACC Individuals Claim National Championships at NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships

College Station, Texas - Three men's teams and two women's teams from the Atlantic Coast Conference finished in the top 25 at the 2011 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships held in College Station, Texas, on March 11-12. Florida State's men's and women's teams placed fifth and ninth, respectively, to lead all conference teams. In addition, two student-athletes from Clemson and two from Florida State claimed indoor national titles at the event, which was held at the Gilliam Indoor Track Stadium.

In men's team action, Florida State led the way with 30 points for a fifth-place finish. Virginia Tech finished 15th overall with 13.5 points and Clemson ranked in a tie for 22nd with 10 points. Miami (T-33rd, 6 points), Maryland (T-44th, 4.5 points) and North Carolina (T-50th, 3 points) also scored at the national meet.

The Seminoles were the league's top finisher on the women's side as well, scoring 22 points for a ninth-place overall finish. Clemson's women placed 11th with 19 points, while Duke and Wake Forest tied for 26th with eight points apiece. Maryland (T-28th, 7 points), Virginia (T-30th, 6 points) and Boston College (T-50th, 2 points), rounded out the scoring for the league's women's teams.

Individually, Florida State's Ngonidzashe Makusha claimed the national title in the long jump, unleashing a season- and collegiate-best distance of 26' 8 ½" to win the event. Miller Moss won Clemson's first-ever national title in the heptathlon, coming from behind to win the event with 5,986 points. Brianna Rollins blazed to a personal best 7.96 to win the 60 meter hurdles title, becoming Clemson's first-ever national champion in the women's hurdles. The Seminoles' Kim Williams put an exclamation point on her senior season earning her second career indoor triple jump national championship with a mark of 45' 9 ¾".
