GREENSBORO, N.C. - North Carolina sophomore Stephanie Peacock has been named the ACC Swimming & Diving Women's Performer of the Week, announced by the conference on Tuesday. Florida State senior Mateo De Angulo was named the Men's Performer of the Week.
Peacock won Nike Cup individual championships in the 500- and 200-yard freestyle and set several records over the weekend. The Cape Coral, Fla., native set a new ACC record in the 500-yard freestyle, breaking her own record by more than a second and earning an NCAA A qualifying time that currently ranks her No. 1 in the nation in the event.
In the 200 free, Peacock recorded the second fastest time in North Carolina history with a 1:45.37, an NCAA B time, breaking her old personal best by more than a second. She also anchored two relays which won Nike Cup Championships and earned NCAA B qualifying times.
De Angulo won every individual event he swam over the weekend at the Georgia Tech Invite. In the 500 free, he bested the competition by ten seconds en route to swimming the second fastest time in FSU's history at 4:15.43, which ranks as the top time in the nation by almost five seconds and earned him an NCAA A time. In the 1650 free, he earned another automatic NCAA A qualifying time with a 14:49.94, the second fastest in program history and again ranks as the top time in the nation.
In the 400 IM, the Cali, Columbia, native took home first place with a time of 3:47.23, the second fastest time in the nation this season and an NCAA B qualifier. In his last individual event, he posted a 1:37.36 to take home first place and rank as the 12th fastest national time thus far. De Angulo also swam on the 400- and 800-yard free relays which placed second and earned NCAA B times.
