ACC Players of the Week

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Virginia junior Rachel Naurath and North Carolina freshman Logan Heck have been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Female and Male Swimmers of the Week, announced Tuesday by the conference office. Virginia Tech’s Kaylea Arnett and Logan Shinholser were recognized as the Female and Male Divers of the Week.

Naurath led the Cavaliers to two wins over the weekend, winning five individual events and one relay in the process. In her season-opening meet against Navy, the native of Manakin-Sabot, Va., earned NCAA B times in the 200 free and the 200 fly. Against the Midshipmen, Naurath posted the ninth fastest time in the country in the 200 free, the sixth fastest in the 500 free, and the fourth fastest in the 200 fly.

Heck, swimming in the first home meet of his career, won two individual events, led off a winning relay, and anchored a second-place relay to lead the Tar Heels to a conference win over Virginia Tech. With the meet result still in doubt, the native of Mooresville, N.C., won the 50-yard freestyle by .01 of a second and came back in the next event to win the 100 free to give the Tar Heels a solid lead.

Arnett led the Hokie women in dual meets at North Carolina and Duke. The sophomore from Spring, Texas, swept the 3-meter events in the two meets and took third in the 1-meter to help lead Virginia Tech past Duke and UNC-Wilmington. Arnett posted NCAA qualifying standards in three of the four events as she earned a total of 23 points to lead all Hokie women divers.

Shinholser swept the springboard events to lead the Hokie men to victories over No. 15 Florida State, Duke, and UNC-Wilmington and won the 1-meter against No. 9 North Carolina. The senior from Burtonsville, Md., racked in a total of 30 points and cleared the NCAA qualifying standard in every event he competed in.
