GREENSBORO, N.C. – Duke senior Ben Hwang and junior Christine Wixted have been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Male and Female Swimmers of the Week, announced Tuesday by the conference office. NC State sophomore Rachel Mumma and senior Hudson Rains were recognized as the Female and Male Divers of the Week.
Hwang competed in seven events at the All-North Carolina Invitational, placing first in the 50 free, 100 free, 200 free relay, and 200 medley relay, and finishing in second in the 100 breast, 400 free relay, and 400 medley relay. His time in the 50 freestyle of 20.03 is currently tied for the top mark in the nation and the 45.09 in the 100 freestyle ranks eighth.
Mumma took home first place in the 1-meter dive at the All-North Carolina Invitational and second in the 3-meter dive. The native of Harrisburg, Pa., scored 287.00 in the 1-meter to beat out the second-best mark by 34.7, and finished behind teammate Hannah Hopkins in the 3-meter by 0.9 points.
Rains helped the NC State Wolfpack win the All-North Carolina Invitational with two first-place finishes on springboard. The Houston, Texas, native scored 372.45 on the 3-meter and 339.00 on the 1-meter to win both events.
Wixted, a junior from Greenwood Village, Colo., raced in eight events at the All-North Carolina Invitational. In the 500 freestyle, which she was swimming in for the first time in her collegiate career, she touched the wall first in 4:57.86. Wixted also won the 100 and 200 breast and swam on the victorious 400 medley relay.
