GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Virginia juniors Jan Daniec and Caroline Kenney have been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Male and Female Swimmers of the Week, announced Tuesday by the conference office. Duke junior Nick McCrory and Virginia Tech sophomore Kaylea Arnett were named the Male and Female Divers of the Week.
Daniec led the Cavaliers to a victory over Wisconsin and in-state rival Virginia Tech over the weekend. The junior from Mission Viejo, Calif., won three individual events, including the 500 free, 1650 free, and 400 individual medley, and swam on the victorious 800 free relay. His time of 15:08.65 in the 1650 free was an NCAA B standard and ranks 16th in the nation this year.
Kenney helped the Cavalier women to a tri-meet sweep over Wisconsin and Virginia Tech. A native of Suwanee, Ga., Kenney won the 500 free with a time of 4:49.07, and placed second in the 200 free and third in the 200 back. She was also part of the 800 free relay squad that won with a time of 7:20.95.
McCrory, a native of Chapel Hill, N.C., set new season-highs on both the 1- and 3-meter boards, taking home first place in each event against rival North Carolina. His scores of 407.47 on the 1-meter and 416.25 on the 3-meter rank No. 1 and No. 4, respectively, in the ACC this season. This is McCrory’s second ACC weekly honor this year.
Arnett went undefeated this past weekend in the last dual meet of the season for Virginia Tech. Diving against Wisconsin and 10th-ranked Virginia, the native of Spring, Texas, set a facility record with a 355.95 on the 3-meter and posted a 296.95 to complete the sweep of the springboard events. This is the fourth weekly honor this season for Arnett.
