GREENSBORO, N.C. – Virginia junior Scot Robison and senior Mei Christensen were selected Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving Performer of the Week, respectively, for the week ending January 10. Both Robison and Christensen helped their respective squads to dual-meet wins over nationally-ranked Tennessee (College Swimming Coaches Association of America) on January 9.
Robison won two individual events and was part of two first-place relay teams in the ninth-ranked Virginia men’s team’s 163.5-134.5 win over the No. 11 Volunteers. Robison took the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 20.39, and posted the league’s best time of the season to date in the 100-yard freestyle, clocking a 44.25 and qualifying for a national “B” cut.
The Charlotte, N.C., native also recorded a 50-yard split time of 19.48 in helping the 200-yard medley relay team to victory with a 1:30.28 showing. Additionally, Robison guided the 400-yard freestyle relay group to a national “B” cut qualifying time of 3:00.15 in an exhibition event. The honor comes as Robison’s second of the season after sharing the honor on December 8.
Christensen won two individual events, guided two relay teams to victory, and recorded four “B” cuts in the No. 10 Cavalier women’s team’s 175.5-124.5 win over No. 13 Tennessee. Christensen won both the 100-yard backstroke and 200-yard backstroke in “B” cut qualifying times of 53.92 and 1:56.52, respectively.
The Reston, Va., native, led off the 200-yard medley relay team that clocked an ACC-season best time of 1:38.77, and also led off for the 400-yard freestyle unit that finished in 3:19.69.
ACC swimming and diving action continues this weekend as seven teams are in action. Virginia and Florida State, ranked 15th (men) and 24th (women), begin this weekend’s action on Thursday, Jan. 14 at Morcom Aquatics Center in Tallahassee, Fla. at 3 p.m.
