Six ACC Rowers Named Pocock CRCA All-Americans

Casto and Youngling of Virginia Earned First-Team Honors
Greensboro, N.C.—The Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association named six Atlantic Coast Conference rowers to its 2015 Pocock All-American Rowing team, including a pair of first team honorees in Samantha Casto and Lizzy Youngling of Virginia.

Virginia, which finished fifth nationally at the NCAA Championships, led the way with four All-Ameriican honorees, while Notre Dame, which finished 16th, and Syracuse, which was ranked 18th nationally in the final poll, each had one rower chosen.

The All-American honors were the first for all six rowers.

Casto, of Dallas, Pa., and Youngling, of Westport, Conn., were both members of Virginia’s First Varsity Eight crew which captured third place at the NCAA Championships and was the Atlantic Coast Conference Crew of the Year.

Hemingway Benton, a senior from Glencoe, Ill., and sophomore coxswain Colette Lucas-Conwell of Palo Alto, Calif., who earned second-team All-American honors were also members of Virginia First Varsity Eight.

Notre Dame’s Ailish Sheen, a senior from Kildaire County, Limerick, Ireland, rowed for the Irish’ First Varsity Eight, while Deidre Fitzpatrick, a junior from Chesire, Conn., competed as a member of the Syracuse First Varsity Eight crew.
