Seven Atlantic Coast Conference Alums Set For WNBA Finals
ACC is the most-represented conference as Fever and Lynx open series Sunday
GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – The Atlantic Coast Conference will be well represented in the upcoming WNBA Finals 2015 presented by Boost Mobile with alumni from six league schools participating. The ACC’s seven representatives in the best-of-five series are the most of any collegiate conference.
Natalie Achonowa (Notre Dame), Natasha Howard (Florida State), Shenise Johnson (Miami), Erlana Larkins (North Carolina) and Shavonte Zellous (Pitt) are set to suit up for the Indiana Fever, while Tricia Liston (Duke) and Devereaux Peters (Notre Dame) will take the floor for the Minnesota Lynx. The series opens in Phoenix on Sunday afternoon (3 p.m. ET, ABC).
Larkins and Johnson are listed as probable starters for the Fever, which will make its third Finals appearance, while Zellous, Achonowa and Howard are listed as key reserves. For the two-time WNBA Champion Lynx, Peters and Liston look to make an impact coming off the bench.
This year’s WNBA Finals is a rematch of the 2012 Finals in which the Fever won in four games.
Thirty-two former players from current member institutions have appeared in WNBA games during 2015, which also led all conferences. Former Notre Dame star Jewell Loyd, the number one overall pick in the 2015 WNBA Draft, was also named the 2015 WNBA Rookie of the Year presented by Samsung after leading all first-year players in scoring this season.
