Duke, UNC and NC State to host quarterfinal matches
CARY, N.C. (theACC.com) – Due to heavy rain in the Triangle area, the afternoon matches of the 2016 Atlantic Coast Conference Tennis Championships will be played indoors.
Duke, North Carolina and NC State will host the matches, which will feature one women’s quarterfinal match and four men’s quarterfinal matches. Starting times are tentatively set for 2:30 and 5:30 p.m., but can start earlier based on mutual agreement by both head coaches.
The revised schedule is as follows:
Virginia men vs. NC State men – 2:30 p.m.; Duke’s Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center
Wake Forest men vs. Notre Dame men – 2:30 p.m.; North Carolina’s Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center
Duke women vs. Virginia women – 2:30 p.m., NC State’s Isenhour Tennis Facility
Florida State men vs. Virginia Tech men – 5:30 p.m.; North Carolina’s Cone-Kinfield Tennis Center
North Carolina men vs. Georgia Tech – 5:30 p.m.; Duke’s Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center
Admission to all of Friday’s indoor matches is free. Barring further inclement weather, Cary Tennis Park is scheduled to be the host site for Saturday’s semifinal rounds and Sunday’s championship matches.
Friday morning’s three 9 a.m. women’s quarterfinal matches were completed before the rain arrived. Top-seeded North Carolina topped eighth-seeded Wake Forest 4-1, No. 2 Miami topped No. 7 Syracuse 4-2, and No. 3 Georgia Tech blanked No. 11 Notre Dame 4-0.
