RALEIGH, N.C. – No. 3 seed Notre Dame took an early 3-0 lead and never looked back as the Fighting Irish topped No. 2 seed Louisville, 4-2, in the second semifinal of the 2016 ACC Softball Championship on Friday at NC State’s Dail Softball Stadium.
Jessica Nasland, who threw 3.0 innings in this morning’s quarterfinal game, pitched a complete game to earn the win, while Morgan Reed shined at the plate going 3-for-3 with two RBIs.
With the win, Notre Dame (41-10) advances to the Saturday’s Championship game, where it will meet top-seeded Florida State. ESPN will carry the 2 p.m. first pitch. The game will also be available in the WatchESPN app.
There was a lot of action in the first inning as the two teams combined for four runs. Notre Dame’s bats were hot early as the Fighting Irish jumped out to a 3-0 lead as a couple of walks and two singles plated the trio of runs.
The Cardinals answered with a solo home run by Maryssa Becker in the bottom of the first to get on the board, trailing 3-1. Louisville threatened in the bottom of the third and loaded the bases with one out, however, Nasland retired the next two batters on a strikeout and fly out.
Notre Dame added another run after loading the bases in the top of the fourth. Following Karley Wester’s fielder’s choice get the second out at home, Ali Wester’s single scored a run to extend lead, 4-1.
Louisville didn’t go away and pulled within two runs, 4-2, in the bottom of the sixth. Jordan McNary singled and advanced to second on a throwing error while Brittany Sims ran home.
With one last chance and two outs, Louisville hit back to back singles before Nasland struck out Sims for the final out of the game.
Megan Hensley suffered the loss, while Becker threw the final six innings for Louisville (35-15).

Parking for the 2016 ACC Softball Championship is free and available in the Coliseum Deck located on Cates Avenue across the street from the Derr Track & the Soccer Field. Patrons will need to park on the second level of the deck or higher by entering off Jeter Drive or Jensen Drive.
