North Carolina’s Moyer and Young Earn ACC Weekly Honors

GREENSBORO, N.C. – North Carolina’s Lauren Moyer has been named the ACC Field Hockey Offensive Player of the Week and teammate Julia Young the Defensive Player of the Week following a pair of high-profile wins by UNC.
Moyer was pivotal as the Tar Heels beat two previously-undefeated opponents over the weekend. On Friday against No. 1 Syracuse, she scored twice in a 3-2 double overtime win, evening the score both times. Her first goal, in the 35th minute, sent UNC into the halftime locker room with a 1-1 tie. She scored again in the 50th minute to knot the game at 2-2 and send it into overtime, when the Tar Heels eventually got the game winner in the 90th minute. On Sunday, Moyer didn’t score but again played a key role in a 3-2 win over No. 2 Duke. On the season, the senior from York, Pennsylvania, leads North Carolina in goals with eight.

Young directed the Tar Heel defense and also played on corner offense and defense in the wins over Syracuse and Duke. On Friday, the senior from Yorktown, Virginia, anchored the backfield as the Tar Heels held the Orange to its lowest scoring output of the season and also limited Syracuse to just two penalty corners and 10 shots in 90 minutes of play. On Sunday, Young led the defense as UNC limited Duke to one penalty corner and a season-low six shots.
