GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Florida State’s Quincy Nieporte has been voted the ACC Baseball Player of the Week, while Notre Dame’s Michael Hearne was selected as Pitcher of the Week.
ACC weekly honors are determined by a vote of a select media panel. This is the first career award for both players.
Nieporte, who entered this weekend’s clash with ACC rival Notre Dame hitting .243, raised his batting average by 31 points after going 7-of-14 (.500) from the plate with three doubles, three home runs and 10 RBI. His weekend opened with a season-high five RBI that led the Seminoles to a 12-6 victory over Notre Dame in the series opener on Friday evening. On Saturday, he was 4-of-6 with three RBI, which included a single, his third home run of the season, and a double that set up Jackson Lueck’s walk-off single that gave FSU the 7-6 win. The junior designated hitter from Atlanta, Georgia, capped off the series finale by going 1-for-4 from the plate with two RBI and his third home run in three days in the 11-6 win.
Hearne threw a complete game shutout at No. 30 Michigan State on Tuesday, a 1-0 win that was the first victory for the Irish at Michigan State since 1986. The senior from Palos Heights, Illinois, scattered seven hits and needed only 91 pitches in the complete game. Hearne became the first Irish pitcher since 2009 to record back-to-back complete games after throwing another one two weeks ago against Valparaiso.
