Florida State Holds Off NC State in Offensive Shootout

QB Jacoby Brissett throws for 359 yards, RB Shadrach Thornton posts 145 yards of total offense

RALEIGH, N.C. (GoPack.com) - NC State jumped out to a 24-7 lead over No. 1 Florida State in the first quarter, but the Seminoles outlasted the Pack with a strong second half for the 56-41 road win at Carter-Finley Stadium. Pack QB Jacoby Brissett threw for a career-best 359 yards, and NC State scored the most points by a FSU opponent since 2010.

Before the smoke even left the stadium from the pregram fireworks, NC State found itself up 7-0 after scoring on its first possession of the game for the fourth straight week. After a touchback, Jacoby Brissett found David J. Grinnage for 21 yards on the game's first play, then Brissett found a wide open Bo Hines over the middle for a 54 yard catch-and-run to give the Pack the quick 7-0 lead just 18 seconds into the game.

NC State would score on its first four possessions of the game, all in the first quarter.

After Florida State scored 14 unanswered points, the Pack took its first possession of the second half for a TD. NC State's Jerod Fernandez recorded his first of two interceptions of the day to give the Pack the ball at its 41-yard line. NC State went 59 yards in six plays, capped by a Jacoby Brissett-to-Matt Dayes 10-yard TD pass to extend the Pack lead to 31-21 2:09 into the half.
