Morris and McFerran Earn ACC Honors

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Duke’s Heather Morris has been named the ACC Field Hockey Offensive Player of the Week, while Louisville’s Ayeisha McFerran was selected as the ACC Defensive Player of the Week.

Morris tallied two goals, including the game winner in the 73rd minute, Saturday to lead the Blue Devils past No. 10 Liberty in the regular season finale. She recorded the first score of the game on Duke’s third penalty corner opportunity, putting away a shot on an Aileen Johnson assist. After the Flames knotted the game at 2-2 to force overtime, the junior forward from Pottstown, Pennsylvania, took the ball down the middle of the field and beat Liberty goalkeeper Mallory Cuccio one-on-one to give the Blue Devils the win. The performance marked Morris’ second multiple-goal game of the season and pushed her season goals total into double digits (10) for the first time in her career.

McFerran allowed only one goal and registered a shutout as the Cardinals went 2-0 on the weekend. She posted four saves in Louisville’s 1-0 win over Rutgers en route to her ninth shutout of the season, moving her into a three-way tie for first on the school’s single-season list for shutouts. The freshman goalkeeper from Larne, Northern Ireland, registered a 0.57 goals against average and an .833 save percentage on the week.
