GREENSBORO, N.C. – Boston College’s Emily McCoy has been named ACC Field Hockey Offensive Player of the Week, while Duke’s Sarah Furey was named Defensive Player of the Week.
McCoy paced the Eagles this week against a pair of nationally-ranked opponents. In a 4-1 win at No. 16 Harvard, the senior midfielder from Lancaster, Pennsylvania, collected her first multiple-goal game of the season, scoring two to help snap the Crimson’s eight-game winning streak. McCoy tallied her third girl of the weekend on Sunday against No. 3 UConn, her 34th career girl to lift her into a tie for 10th place for scoring in program history.
Furey guided the Blue Devils to their fifth shutout of the season, a 6-0 regular season finale win over Richmond Saturday. The junior back from Mt. Laurel, New Jersey, helped hold the Spiders without a shot in the first half, and limited Richmond to just one shot in the second period. In addition, the back line did not surrender a defensive penalty corner during the contest. The solid defensive performance helped the Blue Devils dominate possession and push forward for the six tallies.
