GREENSBORO, N.C. – Louisville freshman defender Tim Kubel has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Soccer Player of the Week.

Kubel scored two goals and added an assist as Louisville (7-5-1, 4-2-0 ACC) won both of its matches last week, including a 2-1 overtime victory over No. 2 Syracuse. On Tuesday, Kubel connected on a penalty kick to lift the Cardinals to a 2-1 home victory over Florida Gulf Coast.

On Friday night, the native of Stuttgart, Germany, converted another penalty kick chance to pull Louisville even with the Orange in the 79th minute before delivering a perfectly placed free kick to assist on the game-winning overtime goal in the 97th minute.

Kubel has five goals overall in his first collegiate season, including four in the last five matches, and two assists while starting all 13 matches for the Cardinals who are tied atop the ACC Atlantic Division standings.
