Louisville Selected as the FWAA Team of the Week

Cards earn honors after the 63-20 win over No. 2 Florida State.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (GoCards.com) – Coming of a 63-20 win over No. 2 Florida State, the University of Louisville football was named the Football Writers Association of America’s (FWAA) Team of the Week. 

Louisville earned the award for the first time over Nebraska, who upset No. 21 Oregon, and North Dakota State, which upset No. 13 Iowa on the road.

Louisville’s 43-point win over the second-ranked Seminoles was the largest over a ranked opponent in school history and the 63 points scored were the most surrendered by a Florida State team in its 69-year history.

Sophomore quarterback Lamar Jackson had another impressive game, accounting for five touchdowns. On the ground, Jackson rushed 17 times for 146 yards rushing and scored four touchdowns for the second-straight game and leads the nation with ten.

Through the air, the native of Pompano Beach, Fla., threw for 216 yards and a touchdown, while completing 13-of-20 passes. 

Defensively, the Cardinals held the Seminoles to just 284 total yards of offense and limited Dalvin Cook, who is considered one of the top running backs in the country, to just 54 yards rushing on 16 carries. 

Louisville, who moved up to No. 3 in the Associated Press Poll this weekend, will face Marshall on the road on Saturday at 8 p.m.
