GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Louisville’s Corey Ray has been voted the ACC Baseball Player of the Week, while North Carolina’s Zac Gallen was selected as Pitcher of the Week.
A junior outfielder from Chicago, Illinois, Ray hit .667 (6-for-9) with two home runs, seven RBI, nine runs scored and was 6-for-6 on stolen bases in No. 2 Louisville’s three-game sweep of SIU Edwardsville. The preseason All-American connected for home runs and was 3-for-3 on stolen bases in each of the final two games against the Cougars. He also added an outfield assist on Saturday and made a leaping catch at the wall on Sunday to rob an SIUE hitter of an extra-base hit.
Gallen allowed just four hits in 7.2 shutout innings as the Tar Heels blanked No. 9 UCLA on the road in the opening game of the season. A junior from Gibbsboro, New Jersey, Gallen struckout 11 batters, one shy of his career high, and allowed just one runner to reach past second base.
