GREENSBORO, N.C. – Wake Forest’s Samantha Jones has been named the ACC Women’s Cross Country Performer of the Week, while Duke’s Daniel Moore was selected as the Men’s Cross Country Performer of the Week.
Jones won her third meet of the season on Saturday, leading Wake Forest to the team title at the Royals Challenge at McAlpine Creek Park in Charlotte, N.C. Jones finished the 5k course in 17:20.6. She crossed the finish line just ahead of teammate Kathleen Darling who took second in 17:23.1. For Jones, it was her third individual victory of the season after winning the Covered Bridge Open (Aug. 29) and the Furman Classic (Sept. 13).
Moore helped guide the Duke men to a second-place finish at the Royals Cross Country Challenge in Charlotte on Saturday, placing fourth overall with an 8,000-meter time of 25:29.8. The Melbourne, Fla., native positioned himself in fourth place early in the race, passing the three-mile mark in fourth and never relinquishing his position. Moore placed in the top five for the third time this season, following a fifth-place finish at the Virginia Duals on Aug. 29 and a third-place finish at the JMU Invitational on Sept. 13.
