RANK SCHOOL JEFF FISCHEL'S TOP 5 PLAYS (SO FAR)

1

VIRGINIA (DARIUS THOMPSON)

JEFF'S TAKE: It required a suspension of disbelief. In fact, this was a 100% Wake lock with :20 left. But then crazy things started happening. A steal. A 3-pointer. 2 missed free throws. Another 3. 1 missed free throw. Then this.

2

DUKE (GRAYSON ALLEN)

JEFF'S TAKE: Virginia fans derisively refer to this bucket as a game-winning walk. Look, we just went through how the Cavaliers had no business winning vs Wake. For frustrated Cavaliers fans, consider it karma. I did love Tony Bennett's postgame comment: I joked to Coach K, "I think he traveled." He said, "Well, I think he got fouled."

3

LOUISVILLE (DONOVAN MITCHELL)

JEFF'S TAKE: This is the highest-ranked play in the top 5 that catches you off guard. It's not an end-of-game moment. But Donovan Mitchell flew OVER one of the best freshmen in the nation, Malik Beasley, and threw it down ostentatiously. How's that for an SAT word?

4

NC STATE (CAT BARBER)

JEFF'S TAKE: I hate to think of where the Pack would be this year without Mr. Barber. I know this, the Pack could have an OT loss vs High Point, but Cat saved 1 of the Pack's 9 lives with this shot.

5

SYRACUSE (TYLER ROBERSON)

JEFF'S TAKE: I'd say Mr. Roberson enjoyed his visit to Cameron. He scored 14 points and had 20 rebounds to help Syracuse beat Duke. And Roberson threw down a ridiculous off-hand alley-oop jam.
