JEFF FISCHEL'S TOP 5 POINT GUARDS
3 weeks ago, I might've had DJ in front of Cat Daddy. But Barber has scored 30+ points in 4 of his last 5 games. And he's played all 40 minutes the last 3 games. I have no idea why he isn't 1 of the 10 finalists for the Bob Cousy Award--given to the nation's best point guard. It's obvious to anyone who watches closely that he's one of the 10 best.
Jackson actually has a slightly better PER (Player Efficiency Rating) than Barber, 24.9 - 24.3. But Barber's been worth 4.3 Win Shares compared to Jackson's 3.3. Jackson doesn't have to carry the scoring load like Barber does, but he has more assists, more steals, and fewer turnovers.
Perrantes is having, by far, his most productive season in Charlottesville. His scoring is up significantly, to 11.6 a game, and he still controls the tempo and flow of the game as well as any PG in the country. His 51.9% from 3 is top 10 in the nation.
Silent G is not a natural point guard, but he is in the top 6 in the ACC in both scoring and assists. A couple of months ago, we dubbed him "The Most Versatile Player in the ACC." And there's no arguing with a 21.7 PER and 3.8 WS.
Here's what I looked at when I had to choose between Carter and other options for the final spot in my top 5. Obviously, he's not as efficient--but I attribute so much of that to his heavy.. HEAVY.. usage rate. Carter is carrying a BC team offensively that really can't score without him.
