Horton leads FSU to two ranked victories, Kearney wins for second consecutive week
GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Florida State sophomore outside hitter Katie Horton and NC State freshman middle blocker Kaitlyn Kearney have earned this week’s Atlantic Coast Conference volleyball honors, as Horton was named Player of the Week and Kearney was tabbed Freshman of the Week.
Horton was instrumental in the pair of wins at College Station this past weekend over No. 21 Texas A&M. In the 3-1 win over the Aggies on Friday, Horton showed up big during the late sets that proved to be very competitive, as two of the four sets played saw over 10 ties. Horton registered 15 kills and nine digs, lifting the Seminoles to a 3-1 win. In Florida State’s 3-0 win on Saturday, Horton scored her second-career double-double with 13 kills and 10 digs. Horton finished the Aggie Invitational with an outstanding .403 hitting percentage for the two matches.
NC State’s Kearney continued her excellent start to the season with another strong performance at the Courtyard Midtown Invitational over the weekend. She finished the tournament with 27 kills and a .362 hitting percentage to garner all-tournament honors. Kearney had eight kills against Coastal Carolina on Friday, 10 versus William & Mary and then nine against Howard to help the Wolfpack go 3-0 for the tournament. Kearney has now taken the Freshman of the Week honors for the second consecutive week.
