Georgia Tech, Virginia Set to Meet in Title Match

Yellow Jackets look for first title since 2010; Cavaliers upset No. 1 ranked Tar Heels

CARY, N.C. (theACC.com) – The field for the 2015 ACC Women’s Tennis Championship is set, as Georgia Tech and Virginia will square off for the title at 2 p.m. at Cary Tennis Park.

Virginia will be looking for its second consecutive title after taking home the crown last season, Georgia Tech will be seeking its fourth conference title and first since 2010.

Georgia Tech grinded out a 4-3 victory over Florida State, advancing to the title match. The Yellow Jackets grabbed the doubles point and held off a fast charging Seminole squad down the stretch, benefitting from No. 2, No. 4 and No. 5 singles points. In an epic final match, Megan Kurey survived a comeback effort from the ‘Noles Daniela Schippers, sealing the title berth with a 6-2, 3-6, 7-5 victory.

Virginia took down top-seeded and previously undefeated North Carolina, in a convincing 4-1 victory. The Cavaliers jumped out to a fast start, taking the doubles point with wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 slots. The ‘Hoos then ran away from the Tar Heels with straight set singles victories at the No. 2, No. 4 and No. 6 positions to clinch a spot in the title  match.
