Gary Williams retired last week after 22 seasons as the head men’s basketball coach at the University of Maryland. He leaves as the third winningest coach in ACC men’s basketball history and has a 2002 national championship under his belt. Williams’ sideline demeanor was rather unique and as Mike Hogewood says in the Hog Blog, there was a method to his madness.
Mark Turgeon, who won back-to-back Big 12 Conference Coach of the Year honors and led Texas A&M to four consecutive appearances in the NCAA Tournament, has been hired as the new men's basketball coach at the University of Maryland. ACC All Access goes one-on-one with the Terrapins’ new leader.
Garret Smith of Boston College plays four positions for the baseball team – first base, third base, catcher and closing pitcher. ACC All Access profiles Smith, who has 20 starts at first base, 13 behind the plate, five at third base and six saves for the Eagles this year.
Wake Forest golfer Michelle Shin was the ACC women’s golf Individual Medalist in 2010. ACC All Access takes a closer look at Shin’s performance in the NCAA Central Regional on Sunday, where she shot a 74 in the final round to help Wake Forest finish eighth in the regional, qualifying the Demon Deacons for the NCAA Championships.
