FOX Sports Carolinas today announced the debut of In My Own Words: John Swofford, a 30-minute interview special spotlighting the Atlantic Coast Conference Commissioner. Hosted by Fred Hickman, In My Own Words: John Swofford debuts on FOX Sports Carolinas on Sunday, January 31 at 10 p.m. ET following the ACC Sunday Night Hoops game between Virginia and North Carolina at 7:30 p.m. ET.
In My Own Words: John Swofford chronicles Swofford's journey from North Wilkesboro, North Carolina, growing up as the youngest of four brothers, to his college days at the University of North Carolina, where he competed on the football field as a quarterback and defensive back and excelled in the classroom as a Morehead Scholar. In the original program, Swofford discusses becoming the athletics director at the University of North Carolina when he was just 31 years old, the youngest major college athletic director at the time, and working with some of the best names in coaching, from the legendary Dean Smith to Mack Brown and hiring the first African-American head coach in ACC history, Hubert West. In My Own Words: John Swofford also highlights Swofford's role as the Commissioner of the ACC - what factored into the conference's decision to expand, the athletic and academic successes during his tenure, and his plans for the future - and, as the only two-time BCS Coordinator, Swofford comments on the BCS system and the controversy surrounding it.
"To continue to give the Atlantic Coast Conference every ounce of my capabilities from a leadership standpoint and what's required of this job. I don't think you ever close yourself off to other opportunities, but when you love what you're doing, where you are doing it and with the people that you're doing it with, you don't think a whole lot about what might be out there next and that's where I am right now." - John Swofford
In My Own Words: John Swofford will have additional airings on FOX Sports Carolinas on February 1 at 9 p.m. ET, February 7 at 1:30 p.m. ET, February 9 at 9 p.m. ET, February 15 at 10 p.m. ET and February 16 at 10 p.m. ET.
The 30-minute interview special will debut nationally on January 31 at 10 p.m. ET on FOX Sports Carolinas, FOX Sports South, FOX Sports Tennessee, FOX Sports Detroit, FOX Sports Florida, FOX Sports Ohio, FOX Sports Midwest, FOX Sports North, FOX Sports Wisconsin, FSN Pittsburgh, FSN Rocky Mountain and FOX Sports West, as well as MSG Plus.
