ACC is the most-represented conference as Sky and Mercury open series Sunday
GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – The Atlantic Coast Conference will be well represented in the upcoming WNBA Finals presented by Boost Mobile with alumni from four league schools participating. The ACC’s four representatives in the best-of-five series are the most of any collegiate conference.
Jessica Breland (North Carolina), Markeisha Gatling (NC State) and Sasha Goodlett (Georgia Tech) are set to suit up for the Chicago Sky, while Mistie Bass (Duke) will take the floor for the Phoenix Mercury. The series opens in Phoenix on Sunday afternoon (3:30 ET, ABC).
Breland, a third-year pro, made her first All-Star game in 2014. Though slowed by injuries early during the playoffs, she is the Sky’s fourth-leading scorer at 9.7 points per game and is second on the team in rebounds with 6.8 per contest. Breland ranks among the WNBA leaders in blocked shots per game at 1.81.
Goodlett has appeared in all 34 of Chicago’s games this season, averaging 3.4 points and 2.4 rebounds while playing 13 minutes per contest. Gatling has averaged 11 minutes of playing time in 29 games, averaging 3.7 points and 2.4 rebounds per game.
The Mercury’s Bass has also appeared in all 34 of her team’s games, scoring at 4.4 ppg clip while shooting nearly 51 percent from the floor. Bass is averaging 3.2 rebounds per game.
Thirty former players from current member institutions have appeared in WNBA games during 2014, which also leads all conferences.
