Seminoles tabbed to win league, receive nine first-place votes
GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Florida State has been chosen as the favorite to win the 2016 Atlantic Coast Conference softball regular season, as voted by the league’s 11 head coaches. The Seminoles, who won both the regular season and tournament crowns the past two seasons, received 99 points and nine first-place votes.
Notre Dame, which finished third in the league in 2015, received 92 points and two first-place votes. Louisville, which finished fourth in the ACC last season, and NC State, which finished fifth, tied for third with 74 points.
The remainder of the poll saw North Carolina with 69 points, Virginia Tech with 52, Pitt with 51, Boston College with 30, Syracuse with 27, Georgia Tech with 24 and Virginia with 13.
An ACC-record seven teams represented the conference in the 2015 NCAA Softball Championship, including Florida State, Louisville, North Carolina, NC State, Notre Dame, Pitt and Virginia Tech.
In the Preseason USA Today/NFCA Coaches Poll, the ACC is represented by No. 10 Florida State, No. 23 NC State and No. 24 Notre Dame. The ESPN.com/USA Softball Collegiate Top 25 also lists Florida State as No. 10 and NC State as No. 25.
The 2016 season begins this weekend, with 10 of the league’s 11 teams in action.
