Fencers From Duke and North Carolina Earn ACC Weekly Honors

 

Duke’s Fisher and Maceczek, North Carolina’s Litynski recognized

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Duke’s Jan Maceczek has been named the ACC Male Fencer of the Week, while North Carolina’s Gillian Litynski and Duke’s Haley Fisher have been named ACC Co-Female Fencers of the Week.

In his first competition as a Blue Devil, Maceczek registered a 14-1 record Saturday at the Western Invitational, competing against Stanford, UC San Diego, Air Force, Brandeis and Cal Tech. A native of Colts Neck, N.J., Maceczek led both Duke men’s team and the foil squad to 4-1 overall records.

Litynski, a senior sabre from Niskayuna, N.Y., went 10-1 at the Penn State Dual Meets, fencing against competition from defending NCAA Champion Penn State, Temple, Pennsylvania, Haverford and Columbia.

A freshman sabre from Kennesaw, Ga., Fisher notched a perfect 17-0 mark Saturday at the Western Invitational, her first collegiate meet, competing against Northwestern, Stanford, UC San Diego, Air Force, Brandeis and Cal Tech. Fisher helped guide the women’s team and the women’s sabre squad to records of 5-1 and 4-2, respectively.
