The ACC leads all leagues with eight on the Hermann Trophy preseason list
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Eight Atlantic Coast Conference student-athletes are among the 28 on the Missouri Athletic Club’s Hermann Trophy Watch List as announced by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.
Representing the ACC are Boston College forward McKenzie Meehan, Florida State midfielder Isabella Schmid and forward Cheyna Williams, North Carolina midfielder Katie Bowen, Notre Dame midfielder Cari Roccaro, Virginia forward Makenzy Doniak and defender Emily Sonnett, and Virginia Tech forward Murielle Tiernan.
The MAC Hermann Trophy is the highest individual award in college soccer presented annually to one male and one female athlete. ACC women’s soccer student-athletes have won the award 12 times, including each of the last three seasons (Morgan Brian, Virginia, 2013-14; Crystal Dunn, North Carolina, 2012).
The Watch List is compiled by the NSCAA Women’s NCAA Division I All-America Committee, based on analysis of returning All-America and All-Region players, as well as any prominent newcomers.
Near the end of the collegiate regular season, NCAA Division I coaches whose programs are current NSCAA College Services members will vote on their top choices and the lists will be narrowed down to the top 15 players. College soccer fans will also have the opportunity to participate in the selection process, by voting for their favorite semifinalist in November at the MAC Hermann Trophy website, managed by LockerDome.
From that pool of 15, three finalists will be chosen for the award. The winner will be announced in January.
