GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Duke freshman Leona Maguire has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Golfer of the Month after posting a 70.0 stroke average with first- and third-place finishes during March.

Maguire, who is currently the No. 1 ranked golfer in the Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index, posted her first collegiate victory at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate, turning in rounds of 73, 65 and 69 for a three-day score of 207 in the event, which featured 14 nationally-ranked teams among the 17-team field. The Cavan, Ireland, native birdied the 16th and 18th holes to force a playoff, and then sank a birdie putt on the first extra hole to defeat LSU’s Madeline Sagstrom.  Maguire’s play helped lead Duke to the overall team title as well, which marked the second team victory of the season.

Maguire tied for a third-place finish in the Liz Murphey Collegiate, where she carded a 73 in 18-hole stroke play and qualified for match play.  She notched a 2-1 record in three match play contests as the Blue Devils placed third overall.
