Collegiate Baseball Announces Preseason Poll, All-America Teams
Seven ACC teams, 13 players recognized
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Seven Atlantic Coast Conference baseball teams are ranked in Collegiate Baseball Newspaper’s preseason poll, tied for the most from any conference. Additionally, 13 ACC players were named Louisville Slugger Preseason All-Americans by the publication.
The ACC is led in the poll by No. 2 Louisville and No. 4 Miami. Virginia, the defending national champion, is ranked No. 9 in the poll, followed by No. 16 Florida State, No. 21 Georgia Tech, 22 North Carolina, and No. 27 Notre Dame.
Louisville’s Brendan McKay, who was named the national Freshman of the Year by Baseball America, D1Baseball, Collegiate Baseball newspaper and Perfect Game last year, is projected as the Player of the Year for 2016 by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper.
The ACC contingent on the Louisville Slugger Preseason All-America squads is led by six players on the first team: Louisville’s Kyle Funkhouser, Zack Burdi, Corey Ray, and McKay, Miami’s Zack Collins, and Wake Forest’s Will Craig.
The second team includes Clemson’s Chris Okey, Miami’s Bryan Garcia, Virginia’s Connor Jones, and Wake Forest’s Nate Mondou. Georgia Tech’s Zac Ryan, NC State’s Andrew Knizner, and Virginia’s Matt Thaiss are on the third team.
The 13 players recognized is the second most from any conference.
