GREENSBORO, N.C. – Clemson midfielder Paul Clowes and Notre Dame center back Brandon Aubrey have been named the ACC Men’s Soccer Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week.
Clowes equaled his goal total from last season in one weekend this season. Last year’s ACC Championship MVP led an aggressive Clemson offense this week to seven goals in two matches as the Tigers defeated East Tennessee State, 3-1, and Mercer, 4-1. The senior from Manchester, United Kingdom, scored two himself on only three total shots, all three of which were on goal.
Aubrey was a key member of the Notre Dame defense that held No. 13 Maryland and No. 14 Indiana scoreless in a pair of double overtime matches during the 1-0-1 Irish opening weekend. Reigning Big Ten Most Valuable Offensive Player Mael Corboz of Maryland, who led the Terrapins with 10 goals last season, managed only three shots (none on goal) in 110 minutes against the Notre Dame defense on Friday. 2014 NSCAA first team All-American Tanner Thompson from Indiana added three shots of his own on Sunday against the Irish, but none of the attempts were on frame. Aubrey also contributed one shot from his center back position in the win over Indiana.
