Tigers’ Defeated Ninth-ranked Michigan At ACC-Big Ten Challenge
GREENSBORO, N.C.—Clemson’s Third Varsity Eight crew was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Crew of the Week Tuesday after defeating ninth-ranked Michigan and Navy last Saturday at the ACC-Big Ten Challenge at Lake Monticello, Va.
The Tigers, who are unranked but receiving votes this week in the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) Top 20, defeated ninth-ranked Michigan (7:00.7) and Navy (7:25.3) on Saturday. The Tigers recorded a time of 6:59.8.
The Clemson Third Varsity Eight is composed of coxswain Maggie Nelson (Port Washington, N.Y.); Stroke: Brynn Hentschel (Jacksonville, Fla.); seven-seat: Alison Rehfus (Jacksonville, Fla.); six-seat: Rebecca Simonetti (Wayne, Pa.); five-seat: Amber Rewis (Buford, Ga.); four-seat: Megan Mars (Collierville, Tenn.); three-seat: Anna McLean (Cheltenham, England); two-seat: Katherine Peters (El Paso, Tex.); and Bow: Maddie Macrone (Radnor, Pa.).
The honor marked the first of the year for Clemson, which is competing this year under new head coach Stephen Frazier Wong.
The Tigers will next be in action on Saturday, April 18, when they host the Clemson Invitational on Lake Hartwell.
The 16th Annual Atlantic Coast Conference Rowing Championships will be held on Friday, May 15 and Saturday, May 16 at Lake Hartwell in Clemson, S.C.
