Clemson Holds Early Lead at ACC Men's Golf Championship


Wake Forest’s Paul McBride posts day’s low score

NEW LONDON, N.C. (theACC.com) – With seven teams recording under par performances on Friday, the Clemson men’s golf team sits atop the leaderboard after the first round of the 2016 ACC Men’s Golf Championship at Old North State Club.

Shooting 15-under par, Clemson holds a four stroke lead over Wake Forest which sits at 11-under. Five teams are tied for third, with Duke, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Louisville, and Virginia all at 1-under.

The Tigers were led by Stephen Behr and Bryson Nimmer, who posted matching 5-under 67 scores on Friday and sit tied for second in the individual leaderboard. Austin Langdale (69) and Miller Capps (70) also went under par on Friday for the Tigers.

Wake Forest’s Paul McBride registered the top score of the day. The sophomore had seven birdies and one bogie on the afternoon to card a 66.

Following the five-way tie for third place at 1-under 287, eighth place NC State (290) sits ahead of North Carolina (295), Notre Dame (299), Virginia Tech (304), and Boston College (305).

Round two of the 2016 ACC Men’s Golf Championship begins on Saturday morning with Boston College, Virginia Tech, and Notre Dame teeing off at 8:30 a.m.
