Clemson’s Hewson Named ACC Women’s Golfer of the Month
Freshman wins each of her first two collegiate tournaments
GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Clemson freshman Alice Hewson has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Golfer of the Month following a record-setting September in which she earned co-medalist honors in her first college tournament and placed first outright in her second.
Hewson’s co-medalist effort came in the Cougar Classic, which was held Sept. 13-15 at Yeamans Hall in Hanahan, South Carolina, and included six top-25 teams.. Hewson’s second-round 65 set a Clemson single-round record by three shots and included seven birdies and no bogies. Her 210 score for 54 holes was the second best in school history.
She then shot a 67 in the first round at the Lady Paladin Invitational, hosted by Furman from September 20-22. Hewson’s first-round score was just one shot off the record for the tournament, which dates to the 1970s and has featured many players who eventually became regulars on the LPGA Tour. Her score was the second-lowest single-round in school history, trailing only her 65 from earlier in the month. Hewson won the tournament by two shots with a three-round score of 213.
