GREENSBORO, N.C. – Louisville’s Erin McCrudden and Virginia’s Tara Vittese have been named ACC Field Hockey Co-Offensive Players of the Week, while Louisville’s Ayeisha McFerran and Virginia’s Carrera Lucas were named Co-Defensive Players of the Week.
McCrudden scored the game’s only goal in a 1-0 upset over No. 3 North Carolina on Saturday. The senior midfielder from Putnam Valley, New York, broke away from the Tar Heel defense and drilled her only shot of the game into the cage. The next day she dished out two assists as Louisville overcame a 2-0 deficit to beat Kent State in the Cardinals’ home finale.
Vittese set up the game-tying goal in a 3-2 win at William and Mary, feeding a pass into Riley Tata at the near post, and scored the game-winner four minutes later on a penalty corner. In Saturday’s 1-0 overtime win against No. 2 Syracuse, the junior midfielder from Cherry Hill, New Jersey, received the ball from a penalty corner insertion, dribbled at the top of the circle and found Lucy Hyams in position in front of the net for the game-winner.
McFerran registered four saves en route to her sixth shutout of the season as the Cardinals upset No. 3 North Carolina on Saturday. The sophomore from Larne, Northern Ireland, tied her season high with eight saves on Sunday as Louisville outlasted Kent State on senior day. McFerran posted a 1.05 goals against average and an .857 save percentage on the weekend.
Lucas picked up her fourth shutout of the season with a 1-0 overtime victory over No. 2 Syracuse on Saturday. The sophomore from Brooklandville, Maryland, made some huge stops against the Orange, especially in the second half when Syracuse took 12 shots. In the 3-2 win over William & Mary, Lucas tallied five saves, including a key stop on a penalty corner after time had expired to preserve the victory.
