Boston College’s Meehan and Florida State’s Crowley Earn ACC Weekly Honors

Meehan scores a pair of game winners for BC; Crowley leads FSU to two shutouts

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Boston College redshirt senior forward McKenzie Meehan been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, while Florida State red-shirt senior defender Kirsten Crowley is this week’s ACC Defensive Player of the Week.

Meehan registered a pair of game-winning goals, including an overtime goal to give BC a 2-0 week. Meehan scored the first goal in a 3-0 victory over Harvard on Thursday night, and then found the back of the net in the 102nd minute to lead BC past Northeastern, 2-1, in a come-from-behind victory on Sunday. It was her seventh goal of the season, 18th career game-winning goal and the sixth consecutive game Meehan has scored a goal in a game. BC improved to 7-0-1 with the two wins. Meehan now has a goal or assist in six of the Eagles’ eight games.

Crowley led the Seminoles to a pair of shutouts over the weekend, a 3-0 defeat of No. 17/14 UConn and a 1-0 overtime victory against Troy. The FSU defense held the nationally-ranked Huskies without a shot from the 12th minute to the 71st minute, and UConn managed just one total shot on goal in the game. The redshirt senior made two impressive defensive plays near the end of the match as UConn continued to fight, stopping a breakaway attempt in the 70th minute and diving to intercept a pass on a two versus one counterattack in the 75th minute. Against the Trojans, the Noles allowed just two shots and one on goal for the match. Crowley also factored into the overtime game winner, making a run to the far post and heading the cross back to the middle of the box for Kristen McFarland to knock the ball into the net in the 91st minute. It is Crowley’s second assist of the season and eighth of her career.
