Boone Leads Duke to 34-17 Win Over Troy

 

 

TROY, Ala. – Quarterback Anthony Boone rushed for a pair of touchdowns and added another score through the air to lead Duke to a 34-17 win over Troy on Saturday night in front of 21,331 spectators at Veterans Memorial Stadium.

The Trojans sandwiched two touchdowns around a Ross Martin field goal to claim a 14-3 lead early in the second quarter. The Blue Devils responded with 21 points in the second period to take a 24-14 advantage into halftime.

Boone capped an 11-play, 75-yard march with a 30-yard scoring jaunt to pull Duke to within 14-10 at the 10:42 mark of the second quarter. After safety Deondre Singleton’s fourth down stop to give the Blue Devils possession, Duke went 40 yards on seven snaps with Thomas Sirk tossing a two-yard touchdown strike to David Reeves to take the lead for the first time.

The Duke defense responded by forcing a Trojan punt, and the Blue Devils took advantage quickly when Boone lofted a 49-yard scoring pass to Issac Blakeney with 3:24 prior to intermission.

Following a Troy field goal, Boone pushed the Duke lead to 31-17 with his second rushing touchdown of the night with 1:48 left in the third quarter.

Martin tacked on a 48-yard field goal with 10:53 left in the fourth quarter to account for the final margin.

Boone finished the night 27-of-41 for 268 yards and one touchdown while rushing nine times for 47 yards and two scores.

David Helton paced the Duke defense with 15 tackles, while DeVon Edwards added 14 tackles, including 10 solo stops, and a pair of forced fumbles. Jeremy Cash finished the night with nine tackles and his first sack of the season.
