Boden, Giles-Harris Highlight Duke Scrimmage

DURHAM, N.C. ( – Running back Zach Boden scored two touchdowns and linebacker Joe Giles-Harris returned an interception for another score to highlight Duke’s 70-snap scrimmage on Saturday morning at Brooks Field at Wallace Wade Stadium.

Boden found the end zone on the ground from five yards out before hauling in an eight-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Quentin Harris.  The Blue Devil offense also scored with an eight-yard touchdown toss from quarterback Daniel Jones to wide receiver Chris Taylor.

Three Duke quarterbacks shared action on Saturday including Parker Boehme (7-10, 66 yards), Harris (4-8, 36 yards, 1 TD & 1 INT) and Jones (3-9, 18 yards, 1 TD).  Running back Jela Duncan paced the ground attack with 26 yards on six carries while Taylor (2-11, 1 TD), Trevon Lee (2-19) and T.J. Rahming (2-17) each had a scrimmage-high two pass receptions.

The 36-yard interception return for a touchdown by Giles-Harris was one of three turnovers forced by the Duke defense as end Danny Doyle and cornerback DeVon Edwards both registered fumble recoveries.  In addition, defensive end Twazanga Mugala picked up two tackles for loss, including one quarterback sack, while safety Corbin McCarthy added one sack.  Giles-Harris also contributed one pass breakup on the day.

Also on Saturday, head coach David Cutcliffe recognized the program’s five award winners from spring practice: linebacker Tinashe Bere (co-Most Improved Defensive Player), center Jake Brodner (Blue Devil Heart Award), center Austin Davis (co-Most Improved Offensive Player), wide receiver Keyston Fuller (co-Most Improved Offensive Player) and safety Jordan Hayes (co-Most Improved Defensive Player).
