Atlantic Coast Conference Announces Cross Country Performers of the Week

Syracuse, Notre Dame, Louisville, Georgia Tech student-athletes earn honors

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Four student-athletes who turned in outstanding individual performances highlight this week’s Atlantic Coast Conference Performers of the Week for the 2016 cross country season.

Men’s Performer of the Week – Justyn Knight, Jr., Syracuse
Knight won his second individual title of the season at one of the nation’s most prestigious meets on Friday, using a strong kick over the final 400 meters to secure the Wisconsin Invitational. The Vaughan, Ontario, junior crossed the line in 23:53.1, exactly two seconds ahead of Northern Arizona’s Fustum Zienasellassie to record the victory.

Men’s Freshman of the Week – Frank Pittman, Georgia Tech
In earning his second Freshman of the Week award this season, Pittman placed 59th individually in Saturday’s 24-team Crimson Classic in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. The Atlanta native earned 48 points for the Yellow Jackets while setting a career best time of 25:54.1 in the 8k.

Women’s Performer of the Week – Anna Rohrer, So., Notre Dame
Rohrer took third place (20:03.4) individually in the Wisconsin Invitational 6K on Friday, leading the Irish to an ninth-place finish in a meet that featured 18 nationally ranked teams. A native of Mishawaka, Indiana, Rohrer placed first (16:11.7) in the Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational 5K in her only other meet of the season on September 30.

Women’s Freshman of the Week – Dorcas  Wasike, Louisville
Coming off an injury, Wasike finished 30th in a highly competitive field at the Pre-National Invitational in Terre Haute, Indiana, Saturday. The Kitale, Kenya, freshman led the Cardinals with a personal best 6K time of 20:46.9, finishing with the third best-time among freshmen in a 42-team field that included eight ranked opponents.
