Atlantic Coast Conference Announces Cross Country Performers of the Week

NC State, Florida State, Notre Dame earn honors

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Four student-athletes who turned in outstanding individual performances highlight this week’s Atlantic Coast Conference Performers of the Week for the 2016 cross country season.

Men’s Performer of the Week – Sam Parsons, Sr., NC State
Parsons opened his senior season at the Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational with a second-place finish in the five mile race, finishing in 23:34.9. The Newark, Delaware, native finished 16 seconds ahead of the third-place scorer, and just three seconds behind the race’s winner. Parsons led the Wolfpack to an 11th-place finish in a 25-team field that included six ranked squads.

Men’s Freshman of the Week – Steven Cross, Florida State
In earning his second Freshman of the Week award this season, Steven Cross got off the deck, literally, and raced his way back for the third scoring spot among Seminoles at the Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational. Cross, from Merritt Island, Florida, was knocked down early in the five-mile race and climbed all the way back to finish 102nd in a field of 194 with a respectable time of 24:56.6. The Seminoles finished 15th overall in the Men’s Blue race.

Women’s Performer of the Week – Anna Rohrer, So., Notre Dame
Rohrer captured individual honors at the Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational on Friday. The Mishawaka, Indiana, sophomore set an Irish personal record for a 5k race with a time of 16:11 leading the Irish to an eighth-place finish in a field that included six ranked squads. The meet marked Rohrer’s first competition since finishing 11th as a member of Team USA at the World Junior Track & Field Championships 5K (15:49.42) in June. 

Women’s Freshman of the Week – Elly Henes, NC State
Competing in her first race for the Wolfpack in this weekend’s Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational, Henes finished 44th individually in a talented 23-team field. The Cary, North Carolina product finished the 5k course with a personal-best time of 17:04.1.
