Atlantic Coast Conference Announces Cross Country Performers of the Week
Florida State, Louisville, North Carolina earn honors
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Four student-athletes who turned in outstanding individual performances highlight this week’s Atlantic Coast Conference Performers of the Week for the 2016 cross country season.
Men’s Performer of the Week – Harry Mulenga, Sr., Florida State
Mulenga followed up his season-opening win with a strong second-place finish at the Adidas XC Challenge. The Chililabombwe, Zambia native covered the 6k course in 17:42.1, leading the Seminoles to the team championship against a field that included ACC rivals No. 13 Virginia, No. 27 NC State, North Carolina and Wake Forest.
Men’s Freshman of the Week – Steven Cross, Florida State
Cross made his Florida State debut finishing sixth overall to help the Seminoles to the Adidas XC Challenge team title Friday in Cary, North Carolina. The Merritt Island, Florida, native was the top freshman finisher in the field, completing the 6k course in 18:14.7.
Women’s Performer of the Week –Caroline Alcorta, Junior, North Carolina
Alcorta followed up her season-opening win in the Elon Opener with another individual title, placing first in the Adidas XC Challenge against four ACC opponents, including No. 5 NC State and No. 16 Virginia. The Springfield, Virginia, junior improved her personal best in the 5k by 10 seconds, covering the 5k course in 16:42.
Women’s Freshman of the Week – Dorcus Wasike, Louisville
Wasike led the Cardinals with a second-place finish at the 25-team Commodore Classic Saturday in Nashville, Tennessee. The Kitale, Kenya, freshman finished the 5k course with a career-best time of 16:59.8. She has finished in the top two of both her 5K races this season, having won the Dayton Flyer Open two weeks ago.
