Atlantic Coast Conference Announces Cross Country Performers of the Week
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Four student-athletes who turned in outstanding individual performances highlight this week’s Atlantic Coast Conference Performers of the Week for the 2016 cross country season.
Men’s Performer of the Week – lliass Aouani, So., Syracuse
In his first meet with the Orange, sophomore Iliass Aouani stretched out the field winning the Harry Groves Spiked Shoe Invitational by over seven seconds over teammate and 2015 All-American Philo Germano. The Milan, Italy, native ran the 5.2 mile course in 26:17.
Men’s Freshman of the Week – Nick Wolk, Freshman, Pittsburgh
Wolk had the top finish by any freshman in the meet as Pitt went 4-0 in dual meet competition at the Tommy Evans Invitational in Akron, Ohio. The McMurray, Pennsylvania, freshman was Pitt’s No. 3 finisher, behind a junior and a redshirt senior, posting a 6.4k course time of 20:23.1.
Women’s Performer of the Week –Isabelle Kennedy, Junior, Boston College
Kennedy, a sophomore from Boulder, Colorado, paced the Eagles with a first-place finish at the UMass Invite with a 5k time of 17:24. Keyed by Kennedy’s finish, Boston College captured the team title, outdistancing runner-up Vermont by 23 points (30-to-53).
Women’s Freshman of the Week – Madeleine Davison, Freshman, Syracuse
Davison followed up her win at the Harry Lang Invitational in her debut with another podium finish at Saturday’s Harry Groves Spiked Shoe Invitational. The Wexford, Pennsylvania, native crossed the line in 21:17, just behind a Penn State duo that finished first and second on their home course, to lead Syracuse to a third place finish in the Orange’s second meet of the season.
