Atlantic Coast Conference Announces Basketball Players of the Week

NC State’s Barber, Syracuse Lydon recognized

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – NC State junior guard Anthony “Cat” Barber has been voted the Atlantic Coast Conference basketball Player of the Week, while Syracuse’s Tyler Lydon earned Rookie of the Week honors.

ACC Player of the Week selections are determined by a vote of a 15-member media panel.

Barber averaged 26.3 points, 5.7 rebounds and 7.7 assists in the Wolfpack’s three games last week. Barber, who is averaging 39.7 minutes played per game, made 43 of his 48 free-throw attempts and scored at least 20 points in every contest. He opened with 22 points, six rebounds and eight assists versus Arizona State on Monday, then came back with 20 points, seven rebounds and seven assists to lead NC State to an 83-72 win over No. 22 LSU. The Newport News, Virginia native put the exclamation point on his big week with a career-high 37 points and eight assists in Friday’s 87-79 win over Winthrop. Barber handed out a total of 23 assists in the three contests while committing just six turnovers. He currently leads the nation in free-throws attempted per game with 12.5.

In three wins at the Battle 4 Atlantis Tournament won by Syracuse, Lydon averaged 15.7 points, 9.3 rebounds, 1.0 assists, 2.0 blocks, 1.0 steals and 30.7 minutes played. The 6-foot-8 native of Elizaville, New York went 15-of-25 from the field (.600), including 7-of-10 (.700) on 3-pointers. He was 10-of-13 from the foul line (.769). Lydon had 18 points, eight rebounds and five blocks against Charlotte, 16 points and 12 rebounds versus Connecticut, and 13 points and eight rebounds against Texas A&M.
