2015 All-ACC Academic Women’s Indoor Track & Field Team Announced

Florida State’s Colleen Quigley recognized as sport’s ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Florida State’s Colleen Quigley has been recognized as the 2015 Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Indoor Track and Field Scholar-Athlete of the Year and heads up the sport’s All-ACC Academic Team, as announced today by Commissioner John Swofford.

A senior distance runner who majors in Dietetics, Quigley set the ACC record in the women’s mile at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational at Boston on Feb. 14 with a time of 4:29.67 that then ranked as the fifth-fastest in NCAA history. Quigley went on to claim the gold medal in the mile at the ACC Championship (4:36.23) and anchored the Seminoles’ winning distance medley relay team. The St. Louis native capped the indoor season by taking the bronze medal at the NCAA Championships with a time of 4:31.24, collecting first-team All-America honors for the eighth time in her collegiate running career.

Quigley earned All-ACC Academic honors for her fourth consecutive season as a Seminole and received All-Academic recognition from the USTFCCCA. She is a three-time winner of the Golden Nole Award as Florida State’s top student-athlete and spearheaded the school’s Student Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) “Soles For Souls” campaign, which collected 400 pairs of shoes to donate to those in need. This marks the second ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award for Quigley, who was also honored in cross country following the 2013 season.

The ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards were established in September 2007 to be awarded annually to the top junior or senior student-athlete in their respective sports. Candidates for the awards must have maintained a 3.0 grade point average for their careers as well as a 3.0 for each of the last two semesters.

Every member of the 2015 All-ACC Academic Women’s Indoor Track and Field team also earned All-ACC and/or All-America athletic honors this past season. Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one’s academic career.
