ACCWBB in NCAA Second Round: Irish Top Purdue, Advance to Sweet 16


NOTRE DAME, Ind. (UND.com) -- For the 15th time in program history, the top-seeded University of Notre Dame women’s basketball team has advanced to the Sweet 16 after downing No. 9 Purdue, 88-82, in overtime on Sunday night at Purcell Pavilion at the Joyce Center.

Freshman Jackie Young led the Irish to their 18th straight victory against the Big Ten as she recorded 16 points, six rebounds and five assists in the win. 

Sophomores Marina Mabrey and Arike Ogunbowale each hit key free throws down the stretch to help the Irish escape Purdue’s fourth quarter rally.

Ogunbowale totaled 18 points and nine rebounds, while senior Lindsay Allen tallied 12 points and eight assists in her 147th consecutive start.

Five Irish players recorded double figures, and four players collected at least five rebounds.
