Virginia’s Bocklet and North Carolina’s Waite honored
GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Virginia’s Casey Bocklet has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week, while North Carolina’s Courtney Waite earned ACC Defensive Player of the Week honors.
Bocklet earns her third ACC Offensive Player of the Week nod of the season after helping lead the Cavaliers to a 17-9 win over No. 11 Louisville where she totaled seven points on four goals and three assists. The senior attacker from South Salem, New York scored three of her goals during a 6-0 Virginia run to close out the first half ahead 9-4. Bocklet’s second goal of the 6-0 run came in impressive fashion when she knocked the ball out of the goalie’s net, picked up the ground ball and smashed her shot into the goal. Bocklet ranks fourth in the league with 57 points on 32 goals and 25 assists this season.
Waite gathered a career-high and a game-high six ground balls, caused three turnovers and controlled a draw in North Carolina’s 15-8 win over sixth-ranked Syracuse on Saturday. Waite’s efforts helped limit Orange All-America Kayle Treanor to two goals on seven shots with two turnovers.
League play wraps up this weekend with four games. Seeds for the ACC Women’s Lacrosse Championship that begins on Thursday, April 23 will be announced following the outcome of Sunday’s game between Louisville and Notre Dame.
