ACC Women’s Basketball: Duke Players Sweep Weekly Honors


Elizabeth Williams named Player of the Week, Azura Stevens named Freshman Of The Week

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Duke senior Elizabeth Williams has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, while teammate Azura Stevens earned ACC Freshman of the Week honors as announced Monday afternoon by the conference office and voted upon by the Blue Ribbon Panel. 

Williams, who was also tabbed the espnW National Player of the Week earlier today, averaged 17.0 points, 12.3 rebounds. 3.3 blocks, 2.0 steals and 2.0 assists, while hitting 56.8 percent of her field goal attempts in leading Duke to a 3-0 week. With a season-high 26 points and a career-best 20 rebounds in the Blue Devils’ 92-72 win over Oklahoma, Williams became just the third Blue Devil in program history to join the 20-20 club. In Duke’s 89-68 win over No. 8 Kentucky on Dec. 21, Williams posted her fourth double-double of the season with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Sandwiched between her two stellar performances against Power 5 Conference teams, Williams played only 22 minutes against UMass Lowell on Dec. 19 but still totaled 12 points, seven rebounds, four blocks and three steals. 

Stevens also played a key role in Duke’s 3-0 week, averaging 14.7 points, 9.3 rebounds and 1.7 blocks. Against eighth-ranked Kentucky, the freshman from Raleigh, North Carolina, registered a team-high 17 points, nine rebounds and two blocks in only 18 minutes of action. Stevens began the week with 17 points and eight rebounds against Oklahoma and posted her fourth double-double of the season with 10 points and 11 rebounds versus UMass Lowell.
